<p>The method involves obtaining a picture at a resolution lower than resolution of a digital picture signal, and locating edges of the picture at the lower resolution. The data of the digital picture signal orientation values is attributed as a function of the result of edge location process. A predetermined orientation value is attributed to data of the digital picture signal that does not belong to edges. Data of the digital picture signal that belongs to edges is attributed to an orientation value calculated as a function of data representing the picture at the lower resolution. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for coding a multidimensional digital picture signal into frequency sub-bands by decomposition (2) a method for decoding a multidimensional digital picture signal coded by decomposition into frequency sub- bands (3) a device for decoding a multidimensional digital picture signal coded by decomposition into frequency sub-bands.</p> |
