<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a constitution of a wastewater treatment system which suppresses the generation of excessive sludge to the utmost and carries out sludge decomposition efficiently. <P>SOLUTION: The wastewater treatment system is provided with: a flow quantity adjustment tank 1 which adjusts the flow quantity of wastewater which includes organic substances flowing in; an aeration tank 2 which carries out decomposition treatment of organic substances against the wastewater sent from the flow quantity adjustment tank 1 while activating microorganisms by aeration; a sedimentation tank 3 which settles and separates the treatment water sent from the aeration tank 2; and a sludge digesting tank 4 which decomposes the settled sludge sent from the sedimentation tank 3. In the wastewater treatment system that converts the supernatant water to the aeration tank 2 from the decomposition, the concentration of the dissolved oxygen in the aeration tank 2 is adjusted in the range of about 0.01 to about 0.6 mg/L, preferably, about 0.2 to about 0.5 mg/L in the wastewater treatment system.
