PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent vertical streaks on a sheet in forming an image corresponding to a subsequent original on a sheet when a contamination deposition is generated on a contact glass during reading a plurality of continuous images. SOLUTION: In both a front end detecting portion G1 and a rear end detecting portion G2 of an original G to be scanned, if portions in which the light receiving quantity of a CCD 14 is less than a threshold Hb are generated ("YES" in S3, S7), and the positions thereof match ("YES" in S10), it is considered that the contamination deposition t is generated on the contact glass 18a, and the emission quantity of corresponding LED devices L16, L17 is increased to allow the light receiving quantity to show a failure in the threshold Hb.
