The device (6) has a flexible cover adjustable to a gap width. The cover consists of U-shaped segments (10) movable relative to each other. The segments overlap one another with parts, and are pre-stressed against each other. The segments are connected with each other in a successive manner. An overlapping level of the segments changes corresponding to adjustment of an adjustable component e.g. rear seat (2), relative to body-fixed component (4) e.g. backlight shelf. U-side pieces and the U-bar of the segments are adjusted to an outer contour of a back rest head.
