PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin glass material having excellent transmittance in a region from ultraviolet to vacuum ultraviolet. SOLUTION: A green sheet for a glass material is formed by that silica glass powders having a particle diameter of 0.1-10μm of 50-80 wt.% are mixed with a binder whose main ingredients are water and methyl cellulose of 20-50 wt.% and an obtained slurry having a viscosity of 500-1,000 mPa s is dried as a thin film state having a thickness of 2 mm or less. The green sheet for a glass material is sintered at 1,200-1,300°C and for 3-24 hours and heated at 1,400°C or higher at an atmospheric pressure of 10<SP>-1</SP>Pa or less, to produce a clear glass material.
