<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane-electrode assembly excellent in durability. <P>SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing the membrane-electrode assembly having a pair of electrodes and a polyelectrolyte membrane arranged between the electrodes, includes an arrester heating process in which an outer shell of the polyelectrolyte membrane is heated up to above a glass transition temperature of the polyelectrolyte membrane in a state fixed by an arrester tool capable of fixing the outer shell thereinto in a flat shape having a long-side direction and a short-side direction, and then, cooling the polyelectrolyte membrane with the fixing by the arrester tool maintained. And also, in a membrane-electrode assembly having a pair of electrodes and a polyelectrolyte membrane arranged between the electrodes, the polyelectrolyte membrane is of a flat shape having a long-side direction and a short-side direction, and when it is moved between a wet state and a dry state, a rate of dimension change in the long-side direction is smaller than that in the short-side direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
