PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress irregularity of an image within the range of the irregularity in rotational velocity fluctuation without a correction failure even if one round cycle of drum is prolonged by image forming conditions. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: an encoder 41 which detects the rotational velocity of a photosensitive drum 1M or the like and measures velocity fluctuation distribution in time period of one rotation of the drum; a storage section 70 which stores a correction value as a correction data table for each of blocks, wherein the correction value associated with the velocity fluctuation distribution is obtained for each of the blocks; a synchronizing signal generator 54 for exposure which corrects a reference Index signal for every block by referring to the correction data table and outputting a Y-IDX signal or the like; an image forming section 80 which forms an image by setting the Y-IDX signal or the like for every block; and an exposure interval control section 50 which compares the number of the correction values in the correction data table with the number of the correction values in the correction data table to be referred to in time period of one rotation of the drum, and based on a result of the comparison, performs control to set the output of the Y-IDX signal or the output of the reference Index signal.
