PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an object detector capable of flexibly coping with the change of a traveling environment. SOLUTION: The object detector 100 for detecting a specific object existing in the periphery of a vehicle by template matching by using image data acquired by an imaging apparatus 2 and a template image includes: a traveling environment estimation means 10 for estimating a traveling environment; and a detection characteristic adjustment means 12 for adjusting the detection characteristics of an object by template matching depending on the estimated traveling environment.
