PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing 1-propanol, using microorganisms, and to provide the microorganism which can be used in the production method. SOLUTION: Microorganisms are capable of performing biosynthesis of 1-propanol from a sugar through 1,2-propanediol. Microorganisms are preferably obtained by inserting a gene that encodes an enzyme participating in the pathway for the biosynthesis of 1,2-propanediol from dihydroxyacetone phosphate into a host microorganism. More preferably, microorganisms are obtained by inserting a gene that participates in the pathway for the biosynthesis of 1,3-propanediol from glycerol. Also, a method for producing 1-propanol by culturing the microorganisms, in a medium to produce and accumulate 1-propanol in the cultured product and collecting 1-propanol from the cultured product is provided.
