PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling the rate of biodegradation without damaging the water absorption characteristics of a gel by solving, for example, the problems that although a conventional method for controlling the biodegradability of a biodegradable polymer is effective for a material having a low water absorption, there are difficulties in the application to a material having high water absorption from the points of compatibility and the like because many crosslinking auxiliaries are water-insoluble, and when a material containing chemicals such as crosslinking auxiliaries is discarded in nature, a load is given to the environment, and to provide a biodegradable gel having the controlled degradation rate. SOLUTION: The control of the biodegradation rate can be achieved without changing the water absorption properties by blending two kinds of biodegradable polymers having different biodegradation rates and exhibiting water solubility or water dispersibility, and exposing the resultant blend to ionizing radiation to form a gel.
