PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup apparatus, an image pickup method, an image searching apparatus and an image searching method, capable of searching good-looking images for a fast-moving subject such as in a sport scene without missing a photographic timing having good-looking scene without requiring detailed setting. SOLUTION: A face detecting section 5 detects a face of an image of a subject 11 acquired with a photographing section 2. A motion detecting section 9 detects a motion vector of hands in a neighboring portion 12b. A best shot determining section 1a determines whether or not the face is positioned at a center portion 12a and whether or not the face a little moves (S3), detects a timing when the motion vector of the hands in the neighboring portion 12b reverses (S4, S5), and performs best shot photographing at a reverse timing.
