The system has an injector (18) hydraulically coupled with a fuel accumulator (16), where fuel is injectable into a combustion chamber of an internal-combustion engine e.g. diesel internal-combustion engine, with the injector. A high-pressure pump (14) conveys fuel from a fuel tank (10) to the fuel accumulator. A mechanical energy recovery device (40) is hydraulically coupled with return lines (19, 24), and is mechanically coupled with the high-pressure pump. The recovery device is formed for transferring mechanical energy from the fuel conducted from the return lines to the pump.
