The method involves measuring a control value at a time point of a control phase i.e. booster phase, of a device i.e. injector, in a common rail magnetic valve diesel injection system of an internal combustion engine, where the time point lies at an end of the control phase. A time period of another control phase is determined based on the control value and the time point by forming a product of the time point and quotient of a desired control value and the control value. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for controlling an injector (2) a computer program comprising instructions to perform a method for controlling an injector (3) a computer program product comprising instructions to perform a method for controlling an injector.
