A cooled shelf unit has a shelf surface for supporting product. An air flow path passes openly above the shelf surface. A duct is along the air flow path. The duct has an inlet, a portion passing rearward from the inlet and below the shelf surface, and an outlet. A fan is along the duct and is positioned for driving an airflow along the flow path. A cooling unit is along the duct and is positioned for cooling the air flowing along the flow path through the duct.
