PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of enabling pleasant image observation by reducing occurrences of faults and reducing unnecessary adjustment of projection light. SOLUTION: The projector 10 for projecting projection light includes: a detection lens system 12, which is a detection means for detecting a moving body present around the projector 10, and infrared camera 13; a determining means for determining whether the moving body detected by the detecting means is a target for the adjustment of an quantity of light, where the projection light enters a projection area, a quantity of projection light which requires adjustment is assumed as a target for the adjustment of a quantity of light; and a light quantity adjusting means for adjusting the quantity of projection light in response to the detection of the detecting means that the moving body determined as the target for the adjustment of the quantity of light by the determining means has moved into the area around the projection area.
