PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively and easily prevent the turn-up of a cleaning blade of an endless transfer member without forming a toner image for prevention of the blade turn-up. SOLUTION: The apparatus is set at the width of a cleaning recovery roller 8b<the width of an intermediate transfer belt cleaning blade 10a<the width of a photoreceptor cleaning brush 8a. As a result, a portion of the toner adhering to the photoreceptor 2 after the transfer is deposited at both ends of the photoreceptor cleaning brush 8a. Then, a high bias is applied to the photoreceptor cleaning brush 8a to move the toner at both ends of the photoreceptor cleaning brush 8a to the photoreceptor 2. The toner of the photoreceptor 2 is then supplied to both ends of the intermediate transfer belt cleaning blade 10a via an intermediate transfer belt 6. The toner acts thereby as a lubricant, and the turn-up of both ends of the cleaning blade 10a is prevented. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
