<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-based ink composition for a ballpoint pen, capable of securing good ink-discharging properties over a long-distance writing by inhibiting the abrasion of a ball-receiving seat caused by the rotation of a ball, and not damaging the excellent writing feeling, and to provide the ballpoint pen including the ink composition. <P>SOLUTION: The water-based ink composition for the ballpoint pen at least contains a coloring matter, water and a thiazolidine compound represented by a specific chemical formula and exemplified by 2,4-thiazolidinedione and thiazolidine. The thiazolidine compound within the range of 0.01-7 wt.% based on the whole ink composition is added to the composition.
