<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method and a driving device for writing an image on an optical writing mode liquid crystal display medium with a simplified layer construction, and the liquid crystal display medium. <P>SOLUTION: Provided are the driving method and the driving device of the liquid crystal display medium, wherein following processes are sequentially conducted, and the liquid crystal display medium. The processes included are: a writing process to make the liquid crystal display medium 1, in which an image with light reflection or light transmission selected therefor is formed by selectively controlling the state of a cholesteric liquid crystal 12 contained in a display layer 7 interposed between a pair of electrode layers 5, 6 between a planar phase and a focal conic phase, irradiated with light to isomerize a photo-isomerizing chiral agent according to the image; a voltage applying process to apply a voltage which surpasses a threshold value of a phase change of the cholesteric liquid crystal 12 in a section irradiated with light in the writing process from the focal conic phase to a homeotropic phase and which does not surpass the threshold value thereof in a section not irradiated therewith to the electrode layers 5, 6; and a fixing process to inversely isomerize the photo-isomerizing chiral agent isomerized in the writing process. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
