The device has a direct current voltage source (B), a field coil (E), and a switch (S) that is arranged in a signal path of the field coil. A generator controller (C) is provided for controlling the switch. A demagnetization coil is magnetically coupled with the field coil and connected to an anode and a cathode of a free wheeling diode (D). The field coil and the demagnetization coil are a component of the rotors of the generators. The number of windings of the demagnetization coil coincides with the number of windings of the field coil. The field and demagnetization coils are wire coils.
