<p>Currency notes and similar value carrying units (1) are in a system for a secure handling thereof provided with an electronic unit including a processor, a memory and a circuit for wireless short range communication. In the memory a location is provided for setting, when receiving predetermined signals, an indicator of the state of the value carrying unit, said states including the states "Active" and "Not active". The system includes stations (41, 43) for activation and deactivation arranged to emit predetermined signals using wireless short range communication. This allows secure transports of the value carrying units. Such stations for activation and deactivation can also be included in different handling systems, such as cash dispensers and cash registers. The system can further include checking stations for only checking value carrying units, particularly when all of the value carrying units also have a unique identity that is stored in the memory and is readable by the stations.</p> |
