PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide such a method, when manufacturing a polyester resin having a constitutional unit of a diol having a cyclic acetal skeleton, as uses a raw material of a dicarboxylic acid which has been unusable hitherto, especially such a method for manufacturing a polyester resin for use in powder coating and a polyester resin for use in bottles, as uses as the raw materials a polyester resin having a constitutional units of a diol having a cyclic acetal skeleton and a dicarboxylic acid and a diol having no cyclic acetal skeleton. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a polyester resin (F) comprises an oligomerization process of making an oligomer by using, as the main raw materials, an ester compound (H) having a cyclic acetal skeleton, a dicarboxylic acid (D) and a diol (E) having no cyclic acetal skeleton and by esterifying these raw materials up to the degree of a dicarboxylic acid conversion ratio of at least 75% with distilling water off the system.
