PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a polyester which can be suitably used for stably producing a high quality polyester having good static adhesion and extremely high clarity polyester without increasing the foreign matter even by long-term continuous operation and further a process for producing a polyester which can recycle and reuse the glycol distilled in the process of producing the polyester by a highly economical method and can stably produce a polyester continuously over a long period without deteriorating the quality of the polyester even on the above recycling and reuse. SOLUTION: The process for producing a polyester comprises using a dicarboxylic acid mainly having an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and at least one kind of 2C-4C alkylene glycols as raw materials, adding at least a magnesium compound and a phosphorus compound, and further filtering a polyester after the polycondensation reaction with a filter having an intermediate pore diameter of not greater than 5μm, a maximum pore diameter measured by the bubble point method of not greater than 10μm, and a filtration area of 4-200 m<SP>2</SP>.
