PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera system capable of improving convenience in zoom operation without causing system failure when connecting an interchangeable lens unit which is equipped with a motor-driven zoom function and has a zoom operation lever to a camera body which has a zoom operation lever, and to provide the camera body. SOLUTION: The camera system includes the interchangeable lens unit and the camera body. The camera body has the zoom operation lever, and the interchangeable lens unit copes with motor-driven zoom and has the zoom operation lever. A body microcomputer of the camera body makes the zoom operation lever on either the camera body side or the interchangeable lens unit side effective according to either a finder photographing mode or a monitor photographing mode.
