PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus suppressing carrier deposition in an abnormal state of a high developing pressure by suppressing the deposition of the carrier to a photoreceptor drum even when an output of the high developing pressure is stopped by an abnormality detection work against the high developing pressure generated during an image formation. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with: a laser scanner 2 for exposing a surface of the charged photoreceptor drum 1 and forming an electrostatic image according to image information; a developing sleeve 21 for holding developer containing toner and the carrier on its surface and transporting them to a developing position; a developing bias power source 33 for applying developing bias to the developing sleeve 21; and an abnormality detection circuit 32b for detecting abnormality in the developing bias power source 33. The image forming apparatus is characterized in that the laser scanner 2 is turned on regardless of the image information by stopping the output of the developing bias when the abnormality is detected by the abnormality detection circuit 32b.
