<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drive out exhaust within an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system for preventing access to components of the EGR system. <P>SOLUTION: A system 125 and a method for purging the EGR system 100 incorporate an EGR purge fan 160, an EGR purge blower 155, or a turbomachine 147. Consequently, the system 125 and the method can draw the exhaust out of the EGR system 100.
