PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a database system allowing data update even when the data update according to a two-phase or three-phase commitment protocol cannot be performed between a database provision device and a database client terminal. SOLUTION: In this database system, the database provision device performs the data update according to a request for the data update from the database client terminal. The database provision device has: a means for registering a first or second protocol as the commitment protocol; a means for providing protocol information to the database client terminal; and a means for updating data according to the registered protocol. The database client terminal has a means for reading the protocol information from the database provision device, and requesting the data update only from the database provision device registered with the second protocol according to the second protocol when there is the database provision device registered with the second protocol.
