The device (10) has a drive unit (12) arranged at a distance from a flap, and a force transmitting unit for mechanical coupling of the drive unit and the flap. A coupling part (16) is attached to the force transmitting unit, and ensures a relative or compensating motion of the drive unit and the flap together. The coupling part is arranged at a leg of the force transmitting unit, which is designed as a traction unit e.g. Bowden cable (18). The leg transmits traction and/or pressurized force, and the coupling element comprises a pressure spring. An independent claim is also included for a method for actuating a flap pivotably supported and attached to an internal combustion engine.
