The device has a valve group arranged at an opening-side end of one-side opening cylinder-/piston unit (28) of a thick material pump (12). The group includes an input-side inlet valve (36) attached to a material feeding unit (10). An output-side outlet valve (38) of the group is attached to a conveyor line (14). A dosing pipe (24) is attached to a dosing pump (22). A controller (56) includes a pressure sensor (62) and a pressure switch actuated during a pressure stroke upon a preset pressure threshold value within the material pump, and triggering an opening movement of the outlet valve. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing a thick material e.g. liquid mortar or liquid concrete.
