The thermostat device is installed in a coolant circuit of an engine 1, and is provide with an operating member 7 containing a thermal expansion element 15 which expands and contracts according to a temperature change of coolant to change a longitudinal length of the operating member 15 due to thermal expansion and contraction thereof so as to open and close a valve in the coolant circuit. The thermal expansion element 15 includes a first thermal expansion element 15a with a lower thermal expansion start temperature and a lower thermal expansion response speed, and a second thermal expansion element 15b with a higher thermal expansion start temperature and a higher thermal expansion response speed.
