PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of extracting an outline of a three-dimensional object in a high quality state by less computer resources. SOLUTION: The method includes: a process (S6 to S10) for narrowing silhouette lines to be two-dimensional outline candidates of a solid/surface model from two-dimensional silhouette lines based on an external shape of a two-dimensional drawing area which is found out by a process for two-dimensionally projecting the three-dimensional shape data of a three-dimensional object of the solid/surface model and finding out a two-dimensional silhouette line of the solid/surface model and a process for two-dimensionally projecting the three-dimensional shape data, performing image processing and finding out the external shape of the two-dimensional plotting area; and a process (S11 to S13) for generating a closed loop by a polyline surrounding the plotting area based on the silhouette lines of respective outline candidates and specifying the polyline constituting the closed loop as the outline of the solid/surface model.
