Relates to an electrical control system for rail cars each having at least one internalcombustion engine. As shown, four intercoupled cars each have a control point C at one end of the car comprising button-operated switches 1-8. At each end of each car there is provided two similar terminal couplings. having four terminal sockets, and the switches 1-8 and the couplings are interconnected as indicated. Engines 1E-8E are provided, two for each car, and the switches 1-8 are used for starting the engines through relays, each switch selecting a particular engine in a predetermined position in the train, irrespective of the orientation of the trailing cars with regard to the leading car. Thus, in Fig. 1, the switch 3 selects the engine 3E, and in Fig. 2, wherein the second and third cars have been oppositely orientated, the switch 3 selects the engine 4E, which is located in the same position with regard to the leading control point as that previously occupied by the engine 3E. Similar systems may be provided for stopping the engines and for indicating engine stoppage, the connections for the three systems being incorporated in the same terminal couplings. |
