APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR SUPPORTING MCBCS PROXY SELECTION FOR MCBCS AND MACRO DIVERSITY IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

An apparatus for supporting the selection of an MCBCS proxy for the MCBCS and macro diversity in a wireless communication system and a method thereof are provided to support the selection of an MCBCS proxy in case a plurality of ASNs(access service networks) exist within one MBS(Multicast and Broadcast Service) zone. A receiver receives an MCBCS(Multicast/Broadcast Service) join message from a mobile station. By referring to the MCBCS join message, if the mobile station is the first mobile station, a MCBCS proxy setting unit sets up the states of MCBCS proxies(118,128,138) as a master state. An MCBCS controller(140) performs a session initiation procedure for the master setting. A transmitter instructs other MCBCS proxies within an MBS(Multicast and Broadcast Service) zone to be set as a slave MCBCS proxy or transmits Layer 2 information to the other MCBCS proxies for the macro diversity.
