APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR PERFORMING AN EXPEDITED HANDOVER USING A DEDICATED RANGING CHANNEL IN A WIRELESS NETWORK

An apparatus for performing the expedited handover by using an exclusive ranging channel in a wireless network and a method therefor are provided to complete the expedited handover by applying all of the change items indicated from a ranging response message in case a terminal receives the ranging response message from a target base station. A target base station(303) transmits a message for classifying an exclusive terminal ranging slot to a terminal(316). Before receiving a ranging request message from the terminal, the target base station receives a ranging code from the terminal, and then transmits a ranging response message to the terminal. The ranging response message comprises change items which the target base station requests. After the terminal applies the change items, the target base station transmits data to the terminal.
