Liquid chlorine is stored at atmospheric pressure in a double-walled spherical insulated container 8 having a central downwardly directed liquid inlet duct 9, one or more vertical liquid withdrawal ducts 33 extending from near the base of the inner vessel 21 and through the insulation 25 at the top and one or more vapour discharge ducts 37, 40 also extending through said insulation layer 25. The latter comprises perlite whilst the space between the lower portion of vessels 21, 20 is charged with glass blocks 26 and fibre glass 27. The container 8 is supported on columns 22 surrounded by a cement basin 46. Dry air is admitted to the insulation space through a manhole 48. Liquid withdrawal is effected by fan blades not shown carried by the base of shafts 31 rotated by motors 12 and the withdrawn liquid chlorine is vapourized in a heat exchanger 36. |
