A cosmetic composition containing a Lindera syrychnifolia extract for skin whitening is provided to ensure effects of antioxidation, melanogenesis inhibition and tyrosinase activation inhibition. A cosmetic composition for skin whitening comprises a 0.001-30.0% by weight of Lindera syrychnifolia extract as an active ingredient. The Lindera syrychnifolia extract is isolated through the solvent extraction using water, anhydrous or hydrous of 1-4 carbon atoms, acetone, ethyl acetate, chloroform, butyl acetate or 1,3-butylen glycol, supercritical extraction, or sonication extraction. The cosmetic composition is used in a form of solution, suspension, emulsion, paste, gel, cream, lotion, powder, soap, surfactant-containing cleansing oil, powder type foundation, emulsion type foundation, wax type foundation, or spray type foundation. The Lindera syrychnifolia extract is used by topically applying or spraying.
