A cosmetic composition containing Orostachys japonicus extract for skin moisturizing is provided to promote keratinocyte differentiation, recover skin barrier function and improve skin elasticity. A cosmetic composition for promoting keratinocyte differentiation, recovering skin barrier function, and moisturizing a skin comprises 0.001-30.0% by weight of Orostachys japonicus extract. The Orostachys japonicas extract is obtained through a solvent extraction method using water, hydrous or anhydrous low alcohol of 1-4 carbon atoms, acetone, ethyl acetate, chloroform, butylacetate or 1,3-butylene glycol, supercritical extraction or ultrasonication extraction. The cosmetic composition further comprises antioxidant, solubilizer, vitamin, pigment, and carrier. The cosmetic composition is used in a form of skin, lotion, nutrition cream, massage cream, essence, eye cream, cleansing cream, cleansing foam, cleansing water, pack, spray, or powder.
