A mobile terminal using a local area network and a method for sharing data of the mobile terminal are provided to download desired data by searching only tag information without searching all data stored in the mobile terminal of a counterpart person. A LAN(Local Area Network) communication unit(120) performs local area communication. A storage unit(130) stores data and tag information corresponding to the data. When a contents request signal is received during LAN communication, a controller(160) transmits the tag information stored in the storage unit. If a data request signal, the controller transmits the data stored in the storage unit. The storage unit comprises a database(131) and a file system(135). The tag information is stored in the database. The Data is stored in the file system.
