A backlight unit and an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) using the same are provided to improve color uniformity by color mixing and improve luminance by uniformly supplying light to an LC panel. A backlight unit(100) comprises at least one light source(106) and a light guide plate(118). In the light guide plate, plural valleys(110) are formed so as to refract light of the light source. The valleys are formed in an upper part and a lower part or in one part of the upper and lower parts of the light guide plate. In the upper and lower surfaces and refraction surfaces(116b,116c) of the light guide plate where the valleys are formed, plural patterns formed in one shape of triangle, ellipse, circle or square shapes are formed. |
