<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight unit in which cold cathode discharge lamps or the like does not cause dark discharge delay and are lighted up instantaneously and, further, thinness is possible even in the configuration of the backlight in which a plurality of fluorescent lamps such as cold cathode discharge lamps are used as a light source. <P>SOLUTION: The backlight unit 20 has a plurality of fluorescent lamps 2 arranged at a prescribed interval between a diffusion plate 6 and a reflecting plate 1, and fluorescent portions 15, 15a, 15b which emit fluorescence are provided in the vicinity of electrodes 14, 16 of the fluorescent lamps 2, 2A, 2B, and an ultraviolet light source 11 which irradiates ultraviolet light on the fluorescent portions 15, 15a, 15b is installed at a position separated from the fluorescent lamps 2, 2A, 2B. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
