PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the damage of an oil seal as a component of a starter motor, when the starter motor is assembled. SOLUTION: The starter motor comprises a driving shaft 15 included in a motor case 5, and having an output portion 20 at its one end portion projecting out into an engine case 3 through a through-hole 21 formed on the motor case 5; a bearing 13 fitted in an annular space 22 between a base portion 20a of the output portion 20 and an inner peripheral surface of the through-hole 21, and supporting the base portion 20a on the motor case 5; and the oil seal 23 fitted in the annular space 22 in parallel with the bearing 13, and sealing flowing of lubricating oil from the inside of the engine case 3 to the inside of the motor case 5. At a projecting end portion of the output portion 20, a pinion 24 having a generally same diameter as the base portion 20a of the output portion 20 is formed. The oil seal 23 is disposed on a pinion 24 side rather than the bearing 13, and enabled to fit in the annular space 22 from the outside in an axial direction of the pinion 24.
