PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processing apparatus that secures high reliability, as much as possible, while reducing the frequency of execution of the operation checks on an expanded memory, and to provide electronic equipment equipped with the processing apparatus. SOLUTION: If it is not detected that a cover member to be opened so as to attach and detach the expanded memory is opened, while the information processor is turned off (No, in step S1), an operation check on only a standard memory is made in start-up of the processor (step S3); and if it is detected that the member is opened while the processor is turned off (Yes, in step S1), it is so constituted that the operation checks on the standard memory and the expanded memory are made at the start-up of the processor (step S11).
