The method involves successively passing by workpieces through a pretreatment mechanism (4), retained water dryer (6), coating area (7), enameling furnace (8) and cooling zone of a surface coating system. The retained water dryer is used as a cooling zone, and the workpieces are passed through the water dryer in a connection to pass through by the furnace. The workpieces exiting the pretreatment mechanism and the workpieces exiting the furnace are transported at a distance from each other in the retained water dryer. An independent claim is also included for a coating system for surface coating of workpieces, comprising a pretreatment mechanism.
