PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a practically usable detoxication method for asbestos-containing waste material in which the asbestos-containing waste material such as slate waste material can securely and stably be detoxified at a lower temperature by a more inexpensive and simple method. SOLUTION: The detoxication method for asbestos-containing waste material where asbestos is subjected to heat decomposition, so as to be detoxicated comprises: a pulverizing step where asbestos-containing waste material is pulverized in such a manner that the grain size of pulverized matter reaches≤500μm; a pressure molding step where the obtained pulverized matter is subjected to pressure molding at 20 to 2,000 kg/cm<SP>2</SP>, so as to obtain a molded part; and a heat decomposition step where the molded part is heated, and is also characterized in that an asbestos decomposing agent is admixed into the molded part subjected to the pressure molding.
