PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a tread in which both low exothermic property and rupture strength are established, and a tire using a tread comprised thereof. SOLUTION: The rubber composition for the tread comprising (A) 0.5-10 pts.mass of an alkyl phenol-sulfur chloride condensate represented by (B) Formula (B1), wherein R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>3</SP>each represents an alkyl group having 5-12 carbon atoms, x and y each represent an integer of 2-4, n is an integer of 0-10, based on 100 pts.mass of a specific rubber component, (C) 0.5-6 pts.mass of sulfur, and (D) 10-100 pts.mass of silica, and a tire having a tread using thereof.
