PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a passenger conveyor corresponding to reversible operation capable of facilitating installation design and installation work of looseness detection means to a narrow space by reducing the number of components. SOLUTION: This passenger conveyor is constituted by providing chain looseness detection means 27A, 27B to pressurize sliding elements 22A, 22B to make contact with each other of a driving chain 19 positioned on the side to enter and on the side to go out of driving rollers 11A to 11C to hold and pressurize a moving handrail 5 by a common elastic body 25 and to detect looseness of the driving chain 19 by detecting displacement quantity of these sliding elements 22A, 22B.
