PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polishing technique capable of accurately polishing optical elements of various outlines by a single polishing device. SOLUTION: This polishing device comprises a lower shaft unit 4 swingably installed while holding a polishing pan 2, an upper shaft unit 9 so arranged as to be opposed to the lower shaft unit 4, swingably installed while supporting a lens to be processed 5 through a lens holder 6, and a straight shaft 62 for imparting a swinging displacement and a linear displacement in the direction orthogonal to the swing flat surface thereof to the upper shaft unit 9. According to the shape of the lens to be processed 5, the swing angles of the lower shaft unit 4 and the upper shaft unit 9 for sliding the polishing pan 2 and the lens to be processed 5 are combined with the linear displacement in the direction orthogonal to the swing surface thereof.
