<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air bag having a vent hole covered with a lid member from the inside of the air bag wherein the vent hole is closed by the lid member or covered to have a small opening in the initial expansion stage of the air bag, and when the pressure in the air bag is boosted, the lid member is pushed out smoothly from the vent hole by gas pressure in the air bag and the air bag is opened or covered by the lid member to have a large opening. <P>SOLUTION: A rear panel 14 of an air bag 10 is provided with a vent hole 18, which is covered with a lid member 60 from the inside of the air bag 10. An inflator 36 is arranged in an inflator opening 16 in a central part of the rear panel 14. An end portion of the lid member 60 on the central side of the rear panel 14 is coupled with the rear panel 14 through a patch cloth 61 on the periphery of the opening 16.
