PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a grout material from flowing in forward, when the grout material is injected by a tail section. SOLUTION: This open shield machine 1 is used for an open shield method in which concrete box bodies 4 are sequentially buried in column by appropriately repeating a step of excavating and removing sediment ahead of the front or top opening of the open shield machine 1, a step of advancing the shield machine 1 by using a concrete box body 4 as a reaction force, and a step of setting the new concrete box body 4 by lowering it in a suspended state from above in the rear of a shield jack 2 contracted in the tail section 1c of the shield machine 1. A side plate 12 of the tail section 1c is mounted in outward openable/closable manner in a lateral portion of a section, where the concrete box body 4 is lowered in the suspended state, of the tail section 1c.
