PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk apparatus reducing the possibility of collision of an objective lens with an optical disk during focus control. SOLUTION: The optical disk apparatus 1 includes: a first signal generating means 7 for generating a first signal that is obtained by processing a signal output from a photodetecting means and shows a peak when the focus position of the objective lens is matched on the recording surface of an optical disk, a second signal generating means 8 for generating a second signal obtained by slicing the first signal at a prescribed level to be digitized, and a movement stopping means for stopping the movement of the objective lens if the second signal is asserted by existence of the target recording surface, then it is negated, and the negated state continues for a prescribed period when focus control is performed.
