摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent trailing, blurred image display and to increase the uniformity of brightness between regions (for one entire screen) and the uniformity of brightness within each region. SOLUTION: An image display apparatus has solid light sources L11-L15, L21-L25, L31-L35 for respective regions, for illuminating the respective regions A1, A2, A3 formed by dividing a panel surface of an electrochemical modulation apparatus (liquid-crystal display panel 11) into a plurality of regions, and a light source control unit 102 for controlling the lighting of the solid light sources. The light source control unit 102 controls the lighting of the solid light sources for each region in synchronism with the writing of image data to the electrochemical modulation apparatus. The lighting control is such that during the period of writing of the image data for one screen, the solid light source corresponding to at least one of the plurality of regions is turned off. Further, lighting control or the like for further increasing the uniformity of brightness between the regions (for one entire screen) and the uniformity of brightness in each region is performed.
